Choosing a Task
I had 30 minutes of unscheduled time. Great opportunity to fit in a short mapping experience. Birdie mentioned that it’s a great idea to vary the time you spend on a task every once in a while. So, I bounced over to her NoRivets.com website and chose a random 8 digit number from a list of blind experiences she put together and then set my timer.

From the very beginning the energy for this experience was captivating!
Started with Three Scans
Scan 1: The first ideogram felt like a moving topic. It came to an apex and then changed directions. The sensory words were: upside, curious, ear, noticing, like a parachute, traveling, here and there, dam, partition, looks beyond, and arrow.
Scan 2: This ideogram was a reverse of the first one. The sensory words were reverses, time travel, snout, believe it, like a parachute (again), wind, and tumbleweed.
Scan 3: This ideogram felt like a big topic, and the sensory words were a being, hill, expanse, horizon, stagecoach (passing of time), playfield, three people, and wisecracker.
Mapping Experience
The first thing I sketched was something that reminded me of a hot air balloon. Three beings were in it as it silently floated in a current. I asked what it was: airborne, vantage point, perspective were the sensory words.
Then I asked who was in it. The answer: adventurers, seekers, explorers, witnesses, and a crew. The description they were silent.
An Indigenous Ancestor
Next, way up on the right-hand side, a being appears who felt like an indigenous ancestor from a time when life was simple. He also had a perspective on this topic. From his feet a long, wavy, double diagonal line extended across the paper and fell below the silent ballon and crew of adventurers.
Below him I sketched some rocks, and one had a spiral engraving. I am finding that, for me, a spiral can refer to ancient history and knowledge that connects to the location. Spirals can even be related to topics that may be dimensional.
More Symbols and Metaphors
A clock appears. The hands are moving, noting different times are involved. When asked why this is important, the answer is that it is about what happens over a length of time—a lot of time.
Now, attention turns back to the currents of energy or wind, and the term “Cosmic Wind” comes to mind.
Now, the wavy lines connect to a sketch of field with two people—it feels like kids are playing. There is a ball in the middle and an animal at the edge of the field. It feels rural, and they seem to be having a normal day and something about the location ties in to the topic.
Next, on the bottom right side, a landscape shows a vehicle driving to check out a situation with a damn. It appears like the water levels behind the damn keep fluctuating. The damn is very serious, and it’s a very solid structure and I notice I drew it in black. The two passengers are different. One is serious; the other is a joker so that’s why wisecracker was one of the sensory words.
A spiral appears on the other side of the damn where the water levels seem to be going up and down, and it keeps happening. The spiral appears is going backward, or in reverse. So, a suggestion about some type of reversal?
I created a box to sketch a perspective from a bird’s-eye view: A big yellow sun was shining on a red and white balloon over blue water. Then, I drew a circle in the middle and words: “Yellow is a start.”
What Would People Say?
I asked what people would say about this task, and the answer was: Many Explorers over time, natives are part of history. Air Balloon points to a discovery, and water levels changed, environment is changing. We need to watch the water, it’s dry or need to be nurturing.
I noticed the truck going to the damn was underlined in orange, too. And a lot of energy was around it. So this situation must be significant to the experience.
Then the 30 minutes was up! Time to reveal and do the post deconstruction to understand, why: “You get what you get!”
